The Albayzin quarter has been recently declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, rising above the modern lower town. The Alhambra and the Albayzín, situated on two adjacent hills, form the medieval part of Granada. The residential district of the Albaycín is a rich repository of Moorish vernacular architecture, into which the traditional Andalusian architecture blends harmoniously. From ‘San Nicolás’ vantage point stunning Alhambra views can be enjoyed as the Monument is lit up at night.
The Albayzín and the Sacromonte are Granada’s most historic, colourful and charming quarters. The latter being famous for its caves, in which the gypsies keep celebrating every night with their jolly Flamenco songs and dance celebrations, and where a lot of families still live. Here, an amazing cave is awaiting us for a Flamenco show.
The show is really interesting and entertaining as the artists are rotating and playing several of the different “palos“ (the different types of songs) of Flamenco, playing the happiest ones and also doing a small performance of the gipsy wedding with the songs the gipsy families sing to the newlyweds.
