Chichen Itza is the ancient city of the Itza Maya. The ceremonial center of this site covers an area of more than 3.5 km. As you visit its impressive pyramids, plazas and temples - El Castillo, the Ball Court, the Observatory and the Nunnery- to name just a few, you’ll begin to understand the power of Chichen Itza. For centuries it was a sacred place and it draws interested visitors to this day. The ruins were declared one of the "Seven Modern Wonders of the World"!
A delicious buffet lunch will be served at the famous Mayaland Hotel, where you can also take a refreshing dip in any of the swimming pools, stroll through the tropical gardens or simply relax in the cool breeze. You can also stroll through our beautiful gardens and watch the birds. The Yucatan boasts more species than the United States and Canada combined.
Relax in the beautiful Mayaland Hotel, walk the paths in the middle of the jungle with awesome vegetation or take a refreshing swim.
After breakfast (included) you will be transferred to the Balankanche Caves, located six kilometers from Chichen Itza. These caves were an important ceremonial site for the Maya. A light and sound show that relates the history of these caverns has been incorporated into the caves. There are impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations within. Two hundred meters from the entrance is the Balam Throne, a type of altar where it is believed the Mayans celebrated some type of ceremony. Many ceremonial objects can be seen at the outdoor museum by the entrance. After return to the hotel you can enjoy exploring on your own at the archaeological site of Chichen Itza. Relax by the pool or take a horseback riding tour.
