Athènes - Acropole - Erechtheion - 11-08-2008 - 8h18

Acropolis actually means "city by the edge", which is why they were always situated on a high spot. The Acropolis in Athens is the most famous of all, located on a rocky hill, 156 meters above the valley of Ilissos, covering an area of about three hectares.

It is believed that the Acropolis has been inhabited since at least the 7th Millennium BC.

Situated in the center of the city, looking over the capital, it's an impressive sight. You can reach it either by bus or you can walk up to it. There is also a museum, right under the south slope of the Acropolis. Opened in 2008, it presents different artworks from the temples. Photography is not allowed inside the museum.
