The museum of the superstar's former home is now Kingston's most visited attraction. Fans can see his star shaped guitar, lying next to his bed and the bullet holes in the wall, proof of an assassination attempt. It was open in 1987, six years after his death. Beside his personal treasures, the museums has well-equipped 80-seat theater, a gallery and a gift shop selling T-shirts, posters and CDs.

In 2001 the Bob Marley Museum became a Protected National Heritage Site.
