The first flower carpet was created in 1971 and its purpose was to promote begonias. It became a tradition and people from all over the world gather to see this grand spectacle, lasting only 3 days and 4 nights. It takes place once in two years. Brussels gets very crowded and all the hotels are full, so be sure to book in advance. The famous carpet is right in the centre of the Grand Place, and it can be best admired from the City Hall balcony, which is open to the public, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM, especially for this occasion.
The next flower carpet in Brussels is between August, 13th-15th, 2010. Be there to see Brussels blooming!
