Designed by Jaume Plensa, a Spanish artist, which used the faces of Chicago citizens instead of the usual faces of mythological beings, sculpted with open mouths. The fountain consists of two 50-foot glass block towers, each at the end of a shallow reflecting pool. They project images of Chicago citizens, taken from a cross-section of 1,000 residents, on LED screens. A water outlet in the screen gives the impression that water in spouting from their mouths.
The fountain is on from mid-spring through mid-fall each year, but the images remain year-round.
