Declared one of the world's most beautiful bridges with its tremendous towers, Golden Gate bridge is also one of the most busiest bridges in the world. In 1998 San Francisco Convention and Visitor Bureau estimated that every year, about nine million people from around the world visit the bridge.
On it's first day it was open only for pedestrians, and it was crosses by more than 200,000 people.
The bridge is both part of U.S. Route 101 and State Route 1, connecting San Francisco to Marin Country. Even though it was completed in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world between 1937 until 1964, but is still on the top 10 list. In 2007 it was ranked fifth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.
The Golden Gate Bridge had become a symbol of San Francisco and California in the world.
