The Pont du Gard is the major stonework of a 50km aqueduct that runs between Uzès and Nîmes in the South of France. It constructed by the Roman Empire in the middle of the first century A.D. The Pont du Gard was added to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites in 1985 and is a major tourist attraction in France.
Eve though it has a pedestrian bridge incorporated, it wasn't built to transport people, but is was part of a aqueduct system meant to carry water over 50 kilometers (30 miles).
