Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu, or 'The hill where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, who slid, climbed up and swallowed mountains, to travel the land, known as the Land Eater, played his flute to his loved one', has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the longest place name in the world.

Tamatea was an explorer who traveled over this land and the Ōtamatea river. He explored Hokianga and Kaipara harbors and sailed east coast where his boat wrecked and transformed into Tākitimu mountain range.

Today Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateapokaiwhenuakitanatahu is one of the major tourist spots in New Zealand, more because of its name than for other reasons. Never mind the name's pronunciation and head towards this hill to view the scenery.
