UNESCO has tried to designate Bagan as a World Heritage Site, but unfortunately has not succeed. The military junta has restored ancient stupas, temples and buildings, ignoring original architectural styles and using modern materials that do not resemble to the original designs. Nonetheless, the site is arguably as impressive as the Pyramids of Egypt: a dry, vast open landscape dominated entirely by votive architecture. From 13,000 temples and stupas 2,200 have remained until today, in various states of disrepair.
Another attraction in Bagan is a day trip to Mount Popa, 50 Km from Bagan to view the Monastery built on top of a Mountain, 1518 meters ( 4981feet ) which you can visit, you only have to climb 777 steps to the top.
