General

With so many sunny days each year, Celerina is known as the «sun queen» of the St. Moritz region. Although a mere stone‘s throw from sophisticated St. Moritz, it offers visitors an extensive sports and leisure programme, unlimited opportunities to enjoy nature and culture, and a wide range of local culinary delicacies.

Celerina lies away from the bustle, yet close to all the action. From the village with its celebrated church of San Gian, skiers and snowboarders ride a gondola straight to the heart of the family-friendly Corviglia/Piz Nair ski area. At the children’s snow sports school, the youngest guests enjoy their first experience of sliding on snow. Close by, Muottas Muragl offers superb tobogganing and winter walking, while the Staz Forest is a magical setting for longer hikes.

Cross-country skiers find Celerina an ideal base for discovering the Upper Engadin’s extensive network of trails and exploring the endless expanse of the valley. The Center da Sport boasts the sunniest ice rink in Europe, a glorious setting for skating and curling. Brave visitors, meanwhile, can experience thrilling speeds during a bob taxi ride on the Olympia Bob Run, or riding a skeleton on the Cresta Run from St. Moritz to Celerina.

The oldest funicular train in Graubünden transports guests from the endlessly long valley plain up through “cloud nine": to the tobogganing and winter-hiking mountain, Muottas Muragl, with its five-star panoramic view extending over the frozen lake plateau and half of the Upper Engadin. What's more, visitors can usually reckon with optimal visibility: at 1,800 hours a year, Celerina boasts the highest amount of sunshine a year of all the resorts in the region. And after dusk, those who want to savour even more beauty should order a gourmet meal in one of the mountain restaurants.

Like St. Moritz, Celerina lies at the foot of the Corviglia/Marguns ski area. That means top-quality slopes, state-of-the-art transport facilities and unlimited fun for all the family right on the doorstep. Until, that is, evening falls, the lights in the village are switched on and the innovative hotels invite visitors to small but select concerts and elegant parties. Celerina has made a name for itself as the ”New Orleans of the Alps”, and every Wednesday celebrates with a programme of jazz, swing and blues – always performed live and always at a different venue. Yet anyone seeking peace and tranquility surrounded by nature can still find it – in a forest clearing next to the almost cliché-like frozen Lake Staz.
