The island was discovered in 1770 by Captain Cook, who thought the island had a magnetic force and interfered with his compass. Even though that proved to be wrong, the island's name remained the same.
It is accessible by ferry boat from Townsville and you'll reach it in about 20 minutes. It is part of the Barrier Reef Marine Park and is very popular among tourists.
The wildlife here is amazing, with unique bird species, like the native bush stone-curlew and many koalas. More than 23 bays and beaches, dotted with pine trees, await you on this unique island.
