South east of Heraklion, Malia doesn't have a large population, but it increases during high season, when people working in tourism move here for the summer.

Malia welcomes its visitors with all the facilities one might need, having plenty hotels, restaurants, gift shops, bars and nightclubs. With a crazy nightlife and big events where famous DJs perform, Malia is rivaling with Ibiza and Magaluf.

The old town has narrow alleys dotted with bars and shops, crowded in the high season, especially at night. The modern town is developing more and more, but efforts to preserve the old and authentic character of the town are made.

Take at least one day to visit the area and see the archaeological site with its superb Minoan mansion and the Palace of Malia, the third largest Minoan Palace of Greece which is 3 kilometres east of Malia.
