With Argentina’s wine industry booming as it is, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing some high-quality vineyard hotels. Argentina’s answer to the wine regions of Northern California or rural France is the province of Mendoza, and it’s here, some twenty miles south of the city of the same name, that you’ll find the Cavas Wine Lodge.
This stunning Spanish Colonial villa is every bit as fine as its Northern Hemisphere cousins — luxurious accommodations, quality food, an encyclopedic selection of the best local wines, and a spa complete with so-hot-right-now vinotherapy treatments — and adds dramatic views of the snow-capped Andes to boot.
Surrounding the main building, scattered throughout the vineyards, are fourteen one-bedroom adobe-walled villas, each with a private terrace and plunge pool. The interiors are true to the Spanish look of the exteriors, but contemporary in style, clean-lined and minimalist, with cool tile floors, lavish stone bathrooms, outdoor showers and all mod cons, including flat-screen televisions, DVD players and wireless internet.
Back at the main house you’ll find the restaurant, wine cellar, and the living room, stocked with shelves full of books. There’s a full-service spa and an outdoor pool lounge as well, and off-site you’ll have access to tours of working vineyards and excursions into the great Argentine outdoors.
