Within a decade of its opening the Four Seasons has managed to become, by many lights, the top luxury hotel in Jordan’s capital city of Amman. In terms of design, it doesn’t get much more conservative than this — it’s about as avant-garde as you’d expect from a Middle Eastern outpost of a Canadian luxury chain. But there’s something to be said for following the rules, when high-end hospitality is your business; a stay in a hotel like this, often enough, is measured by how few surprises one encounters, not how many.
One thing they’ve got right as usual is the size of the place. With just shy of two hundred rooms, the Four Seasons Amman is about as big as a luxury hotel should be: big enough to sustain a pool, a spa, a fitness center, and a handful of restaurants and bars, but not so big you need a golf cart to get around. Service suffers when hotels grow anonymously large, and if there’s one thing the service never does around here, it’s suffer. It’s roughly the opposite of the boutique hotel experience: the ideal stay at a place like this is one where you hardly notice the hotel at all.
