Berlin may very well be the hipster capital of Germany, and possibly all of Europe. But there’s still business that needs to be done. Still, there’s no reason why the business hotels shouldn’t have a bit of fun. What makes the Park Plaza Wallstreet unique is that its particular idea of fun is in exaggerating, rather than obscuring, its big-business leanings — it’d be impossible to walk across the dollar-print carpets, for example, without picking up on the Wall Street theme.
If everything ’80s is cool again, then it’s Gordon Gekko’s time as well — and he’d feel quite at home in the crisp minimalism of the Park Plaza, livened as it is by occasional flashes of very brash materialist kitsch, including business-motivational aphorisms stenciled in several languages above the bed heads.
It’s got all the basics covered, from the fitness center and sauna to the stylish bar and restaurant. This isn’t the place to actually live the five-star luxe life that the décor plays at — for that you’d be better off in one of Berlin’s extremely unironic five-star luxury hotels — but for a witty, well-designed take on the contemporary business hotel, the Wallstreet is your place.
