By and large the hoteliers of Marrakech are a pretty traditional lot, at least aesthetically. The riad hotels in particular are, almost without exception, outfitted in varying shades of classic Arabian style. So a place like Riad Dixneuf La Ksour, while hardly avant-garde in its design, stands out for its African colonial touches.
Alongside the traditional riad architecture and some ornate Moorish-style carving you’ll find more than a little bit of European influence — instead of soft pastels or rich crimsons and violets, you’ll find white walls, dark mahogany woodwork, even some wood paneling and plush leather furniture. It’s quite pleasing to the eye but more than that it’s comfortable, possessed of a certain practical charm as opposed to the more theatrical style of the classic riad.
As for the nuts and bolts of the place: Riad Dixneuf La Ksour has a dining room that serves lunch and dinner, provided you book a few hours in advance — a welcome convenience, as the Marrakech medina isn’t exactly conducive to popping out to find a bite. Beyond that (and the useful luxury of an airport transfer service) it’s a pretty low-maintenance sort of place — you come here for a hideaway, rather than a total entertainment experience.
