Plenty of well-heeled San Franciscans dream of having their homes filled with exquisite, international modern furnishings of a legendary local showroom/gallery called Limn. What they might not know is that there’s something of a “Camp Limn” just up the road in slightly sleepy, highly underrated Sacramento, in the form of the Greens Hotel.
It’s a town that lacks some of the visual appeal of the coastal cities, but its long-dormant coolness has begun bubbling up recently. A former motel on a busy boulevard, the Greens differs form other motel-redos by having only 27 rooms, which are effectively coupled with a large, modern garden for swank events (or just swank lounging). Those 27 rooms aren’t filled with the same stark, retro mid-century icons you can see anywhere, but rather are vividly colored, with a well-curated selection of unique modern pieces from international designers.
Beyond the killer furnishings and design, this tiny motel does not have the bevy of indulgent services that typically come with luxury establishments. It’s budget-friendly, to say the least, a converted motel in a neighborhood, Del Paso, that’s emerging, to put it politely — it’s full of new businesses, and exploring these on a sultry summer afternoon might prove more memorable than your last spa treatment anyway.
