Itinerary
Day 1:
Sunday. Rome
Upon arrival, check into hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Tonight a welcome dinner and an introduction by your tour escort. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 2:
Monday. Rome
After breakfast, you’ll have a guided tour of Rome. Classic sites include: Trevi Fountain, the Lungotevere, Castle of St. Angelo and St. Peter’s Basilica. Afternoon free time at leisure. Overnight at your hotel.
Day 3:
Tuesday. Rome/Naples/Pompeii/Sorrento
After breakfast departure for Naples. A short drive across this famous city, known as the capital of the “Kingdom of Two Sicilies”, introduces us to Mergellina, Lungomare Caracciolo, Castel Dell’Ovo and Maschio Angioino. Next, to Pompeii for a guided afternoon tour of the archaeological excavations of this Roman city, destroyed and buried by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD and rediscovered at the end of the 16th century. Then to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4:
Wednesday. Sorrento/Capri/Sorrento
After breakfast, transfer to the ferry and cross to the Isle of Capri, famous since Roman times and favourite vacation spot of the Emperor Tiberius. Arrive at the port of Marina Grande and take mini-bus to La Piazzetta. Lunch is included and there’s leisure time to explore. Return to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 5:
Thursday. Sorrento
Breakfast at the hotel. Day at leisure in Sorrento or take an optional tour to Amalfi. Overnight at hotel.
Day 6:
Friday. Sorrento/Montecassino/Roman Countryside
This morning you depart Sorrento and drive toward Roman Countryside. En route stop at the Abbey of Mt. Cassino renowned for the battle during World War ll. Proceed to Cassino War Cemetery, the largest WWII Cemetery in Italy. The cemetery contains 4265 grave markers of soldiers died in battles against the Germany arm, mostly young Canadian, British, Indian, Australian and New Zealander soldiers. In the afternoon arrival in the Roman Countryside. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7:
Saturday. Roman Countryside
These lovely small villages in the south of Rome, called Castelli, have always been a wonderful holiday resort due to the beauty of the landscape, the typical local cuisine and the good wine. The first village to visit is Castelgandolfo and its palace (Pope's summer residence) and the lake of Albano, a former volcano. Then you’ll reach Grottaferrata very famous for its important 15th century monastery. After you’ll reach Nemi, a village built on the slope of a hill, overlooking Nemi lake, another former volcano. During this tour you’ll visit wineries to sample some of the best wines that Italy has to offer as well as various cheeses and meats. Dinner and overnight.
Day 8:
Sunday. Roman Countryside/Airport
After breakfast, transfer to Rome’s Fiumicino airport for your return flight home.
