Grosse Île, an exceptionnel place!

Part nature, part history! The true essence of Grosse-Ile : breathtaking natural landscapes, inspirational sceneries, moving historic tales , the promise of an unforgettable visit … Take a leisurely walk through the Irish path, or even a stroll down the Lovers lane. Step where thousands of immigrants have stepped before, at your own pace, in your own way.

Between 1832 and 1937, Grosse-Ile was the quarantine station that served the port of Quebec. This site testifies to the tragic events that occurred in the summer of 1847 when many Irish immigrants fled the Great Famine. Today a National Historic Site of Canada, Grosse-Ile opens its doors to you. Over forty historic buildings, animation with period costumes, pedestrian trails, central exhibit on village life, guided tours …
