The old castles along the Danube tell us all about the former importance of this trade and traffic route. One of them, the Dürnstein, is especially famous because it is the place where King Richard the Lionheart was imprisoned while waiting for his ransom, raised by his faithful Minstrel Blondel, to arrive from England. During a romantic boat trip, history comes alive. The heart of the Wachau is the old wine merchants´ town of Krems. The highlight of this excursion is the visit to the Benedictine abbey of Melk, one of Austria´s most famous Baroque buildings. This abbey, together with the Wachau area, won the award for "Best Historic Destination of the World" in 2008. It is possibile to also have lunch at the Abbey Restaurant at Melk.
