Trough Norway's wildest scenery, the 20 kilometer Flam ride is a one-hour train journey that will carry you away in the magic land of trolls, gnomes and Norwegian fjord. This trip will delight you along Norway’s deepest fjord and the second longest in the world: the Sognefjord. The unforgettable sights, the tremendous cliffs, the beautiful cascading waterfalls built up one of the worlds most fantastic scenery.
Passing thought the delicate Flam valley, the Flam Railway is considered to be a masterpiece of Norwegian engineering. Works for this line took 20 years to complete after being started in 1923. When designing the Oslo-Bergen line, the connection to the Sognefjord was neglected, so this called for a second intervention.
Passing 20 tunnels, 1 bridge and 4 water tunnels, the train stops 8 times, climbing up to 863,6 m above sea level. In 1915, the estimated traffic was 22,000 passenger a year, but by 2007 the new record was set to 582.826 passengers.
On the board of Flam Railway, you can be one of many nature enthusiast that are enjoying one of the word's most beautiful glacier scenarios at the foot of the Norwegian mountains.
