With a well-deserved reputation as one of the world's most spectacular fiords, Milford Sound is located 50 km north-west of Queenstown as the crow flies but 300 km by road. This 22-km-long fiord is sited in a magnificent alpine landscape in the World Heritage Fiordland National Park. The popular four-day scenic Milford Track walk from Lake Te Anau to Milford finishes at Milford Sound.
Cruise Milford Sound and view stunning glaciated mountains, including the famous and much photographed Mitre Peak, which rises from the ocean floor to its peak approximately 1.6 kilometres above sea level. Snow-tipped peaks loom overhead and powerful waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres down into the sea. Rugged cliffs are covered in magnificent ancient rainforests. Look out for the seals, dolphins, and penguins swimming in the waters below.
