beauty and adventure
Where will you find the world's ultimate adventure playground? Is it in the hills and valleys of New Zealand? Or maybe among the high-rolling pleasures of Monaco? We're inclined to suggest an alternative spot: Costa Rica. For us, this is the best adrenalin rush you'll find: a sun-drenched tropical getaway bursting with the most adventurous activities around. So hold on tight and we'll fill you in on what to expect.
do you know the way to san jose?
As soon as you touch down in the capital, San Jose, the action begins. Spend your nights at the hotel Grano de Oro, and your days paddling the white water of the Sarapiqui river and mountain biking through the dense jungle, but save your energies for the slopes of the legendary Arenal Volcano. Before erupting in 1968, this giant had been dormant for 3000 years and still fuels the hot springs at its base. The surrounding National Park is criss-crossed with hanging bridges that traverse deep jungle ravines and river canyons. It's a thrilling way to check out Costa Rica's varied and vibrant wildlife.
jungle and diving
Next stop, the Pacific. The beaches of the incredible Nicoya Peninsula are some of our favourites and are virtually untouched by tourism, so there's plenty of opportunity to explore. Deserted coves surrounded by tropical jungle and stunning scenery provide a perfect wind-down to the trip, but if you're still up for adventure then get your scuba gear on: there's more to explore under the water. Stay at Punta Islita, our favourite award-winning Costa Rican property which mixes authentic local materials and chic design to create a secluded spot of paradise.
fun, sun and thrills
True to style, you'll be staying in great hotels. Whether you're recovering from hiking the hot slopes of one of the world's most active volcanoes, or floating in the warm waters of the Pacific, every desire will be catered for and a fluffy bed will always be waiting at the end of the day. Costa Rica ticks every box: Fun - loads; sun - even more; and thrills - never better. All we can say is check out it out before the rest of the world cottons on.
