Hailed as the largest covered market in the world, Kapalicarsi or the Grand Bazaar (as it’s more commonly known to visitors) in the centre of Istanbul covers and area of 50 acres and is home to over 3,000 shops. It’s bustling, crammed with people, noisy and is open Monday – Saturday, 8:30 – 19:30*. You can buy virtually anything inside the Grand Bazaar from foods to antiques, carpets to leather fashion goods. It’s worth noting that pickpockets are known to prowl the avenues within the markets so do take care.
