Highlights / General details

Just outside Portland lies Willamette wine country, boasting nearly 100 wineries and tasting rooms. On this half-day quest, visit four award-winning wineries that deliver on elegance but leave the pretense at the door. Tour the wineries and taste fine wine, while learning about the art of viticulture from an expert guide and sometimes the winemakers themselves. You’ll clean your palate with a Cascadian safari lunch, and get driven through the day in a plush bio-diesel Mercedes van.

Itinerary In the past decade Oregon has become a world-class wine state, with 15 approved wine growing regions (AVAs) and more than 300 wineries producing 72 varieties. Our Oregon Wine Trail Experience will take you on a tour of a few of the Willamette Valley’s most acclaimed boutique wineries in an intimate and relaxed setting. With EverGreen Escapes the spotlight is on more than just the quality of the wine.

On this half day exploration your naturalist guide will enlighten you with the rich ecology of the region, while at each stop will dig a little deeper to explore the local wine making history, the fine art of viticulture and Oregon’s commitment to sustainable farming practices.

Wineries Red Ridge/ Durant: Having grown wine grapes for almost 40 years, the Durant family knows just what is needed for a superb wine tasting experience. The wine produced from their on-site vineyard is unbelievably good, but Red Ridge Farms is definitely a “destination for the senses”. Sustainable farming practices add to the appeal of Red Ridge Farms, but the lavender fields, olive groves, plant nursery, and breathtaking views all contribute to the sense of being a world away from daily life.

WillaKenzie: Boasting that dirt, clones, and people matter, WillaKenzie Estate can back up their claim. Proof is in the fact that their name is taken from the marine sedimentary soil that the winery was built on. The sustainably grown fruit produced by this family owned winery combines traditional, old world Burgundian style winemaking with new world, Cascadian Pinot grapes. The combination really captures the experience of WillaKenzie in a bottle.

Cathedral Ridge Tasting Room: The Pacific Northwest’s diverse climate lends itself to producing an equally diverse range of wines. Located in the dramatic Columbia Gorge, Cathedral Ridge is able to produce everything from a light and floral Pinot Gris to a dark and smoky Zinfandel. This is a perfect stop to highlight the different wine growing regions of Oregon and the unique qualities of the 16 different AVAs in the state.

Rex Hill: The staff at Rex Hill knows the importance of the history of a place as well as of a wine and demonstrates it well. Upon entering the winery, you can see the original tunnels which carted drying racks years ago, but you’ll also see the all the latest winemaking tools: French oak and stainless steel barrels, wine presses, an in-house laboratory and bottling line, temperature controlled fermentation and blending tanks, and a state of the art cross-flow filter. The essence table and soil displays show that the process of tasting is as much a part of the experience as the process of making the wine.
